Gerry was honoured for his outstanding business achievements and for creating substantial employment both locally and internationally. Gerry was also commended for the work that he does with local charities and for his sponsorship of the Mayo ladies GAA team for many years.
The awards ceremony, now in its 20th year, attracted a full house and all the proceeds from the event go towards the running of the Rehab workshop at Breaffy Road, Castlebar. Rehab is a dynamic not-for-profit organisation working to support those with disabilities and others who are marginalised. Rehab has an ongoing programme of fundraising around Ireland to ensure the continued development of its services locally.
