Research, Development and Innovation of cutting edge software and integrated EPoS solutions form the backbone of CBE’s long term strategy. They are central components to the company’s growth in domestic and export markets. CBE invests significant resources in this area including its facilities and the recruitment/training of highly skilled graduates and software developers.

In 2007, CBE invested over €6m in a new R&D Centre at its headquarters site. The company develops all software in-house and has built an impressive record over the past three decades. CBE is recognised for its innovation within the industry and has won numerous awards.

Recognition of CBE's IT Capabilities
In 2009, CBE won the prestigious ‘IT COMPANY OF THE YEAR AWARD’. Of the many nominees for the award, it was short listed to two companies, the huge multinational Cisco & CBE.

CBE came out the winners in the end. Gerard Concannon CEO of CBE said, “I accepted the award on behalf of the CBE team and thanked my co-directors, management and staff for their hard work, dedication and innovation. Innovation and inventiveness has been the key to our software success”. Gerard concluded by saying, "CBE is one of the few companies recruiting at the moment and recently took on six software engineers".
