Candidates must possess
1. At least a 2:1 honours degree, B.Eng or BSc in a Computing/IT discipline
2. To be considered for this position you must be eligible to work in the Republic of Ireland

Desirable

1. A 1:1 Honours Degree classification in Computing/IT.
2. Work experience of 6+ months
3. Significant professional experience in software coding preferably in Windows/.NET with emphasis on C#. Knowledge of Visual Studio 6 along with C++ and Visual Basic 6.
4. Solid understanding of network security, programming in a Windows environment and integrating with SQL databases.
5. As this post requires the applicant to travel on official duty, the successful candidate should have a full clean drivers licence

FUSION Graduates who have completed the FUSION Post Graduate Diploma in Management need not apply.

INTERTRADEIRELAND FUSION PROGRAMME – HOW IT WORKS
The InterTradeIreland FUSION Programme offers Graduates an opportunity to manage technology transfer projects with some of the most progressive companies on the island of Ireland.  FUSION gives companies access to the wealth of expertise and facilities in our universities and colleges across the island of Ireland, allowing them to make strategic advances in innovation.  FUSION initially develops partnerships between companies with a technology need on one side of the border, and colleges or universities that can provide the required specialist expertise on the other side.  The partners work collectively to plan a specific project that will solve a technology need within the company.  A high calibre Graduate is then employed to spearhead the project for a period of up to 1 year and act as the link between the university and the company.  The successful FUSION Graduate will receive an attractive package and will also be given the opportunity to gain a fully-funded Post Graduate Diploma in Management from the Smurfit Business School in UCD.

In this instance CBE Software and University of Ulster have partnered to carry out the project described below.

CBE SOFTWARE
CBE is a leader in EPoS solutions for retail, forecourt or hospitality providing both hardware/software solutions and offering after sales repairs and maintenance on all their products. CBE support retailers and guide them to operate their businesses more effectively while meeting shopper needs. CBE also develops and integrates its software with systems for all major symbol group wholesalers and banks, and a variety of accounting, loyalty, and cashless solutions. UNIVERSITY OF ULSTER
The programme will bring academics into direct contact with current industrial practices in EPOS software system deployments. The know-how and knowledge gained in this venture will be invaluable in assisting academics formulate future large scale enterprise software systems for other software systems companies in addition to the expertise ascertained in the development of the system. The programme will also provide case study material, which will be invaluable for highlighting the need for good design, production and management practice in small companies. The University’s mission is to provide the widest possible access to learning through international excellence in teaching and research in an environment of equality, tolerance and mutual respect, thereby enhancing educational, economic, social and cultural development in Ireland and elsewhere. The faculty of Computing and Engineering runs courses in computer science, which focus in depth on project management, programming, network security, Internet technologies and web development. Involvement in a FUSION project focussed on the implementation of such will extend the experience of associated staff and reinforce the methods being taught. The University will use the practical experience gained to reinforce the industrial and commercial relevance of many current undergraduate courses through generation of new project material and new course notes.  The University will also implement the know-how and knowledge gained as course material in postgraduate programmes and in short-course programmes for industrialists. The programme presents excellent research opportunities with the company to further develop and expand its business into high value added products and processes.

FUSION PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The objective of this FUSION project is to introduce a strategic approach to rolling out secure software to support their core services. This role will involve creating secure software with correct encryption techniques and certificates. The project will also seek to ensure that CBE comply with best practice standards set out by the industry regulators and apply for industry security accreditation. The project will also concentrate on revising existing non-security conscious software modules on the Web portal, IT infrastructure and customer systems.

FUSION GRADUATE
Reporting to the Company Supervisor, you will be employed by CBE Software to lead the FUSION project.  You will be responsible for ensuring that it is brought to a successful conclusion with the support from your supervisors.  This is an exciting opportunity for a Graduate to gain excellent industrial experience through a structured and planned programme of work.  In addition to the daily support of a Company Supervisor, a dedicated member of University of Ulster with expertise in the project area will spend time with you and your Company Supervisor supporting the project.  Additional support will also be given to you by a FUSION Consultant responsible for ensuring that all projects run according to schedule.

Main Duties
• To carry out the tasks outlined in the project workplan developed by the company and academic partnership
• To report formally on a quarterly basis on progress with the workplan to a Project Management Group (PMG) which includes the assigned FUSION Consultant representing InterTradeIreland
• To liaise effectively with your Company Supervisor on a regular basis
• To liaise effectively with your Academic Supervisor to ensure that the required expertise is being provided to the project
• To convene and service monthly technical meetings with the core project team (Graduate, Company Supervisor and Academic Supervisor)
• To direct the necessary forward planning for the success of the project
• To train staff so that the new technology is fully transferred and embedded in the company
• To attend Postgraduate Diploma in Management Practice delivered by Smurfit School in UCD
• To assist with the preparation of a project Final Report required by InterTradeIreland
• Any other duties which might fall within the general ambit of the post

CAREER DEVELOPMENT
The project is of 12 months duration and offers an ideal opportunity for you to develop skills in technical expertise in solutions for secure software systems. The graduate will be expected to research & become proficient in developing and integrating core business critical software and database development & administration. The graduate will develop managerial skills in project management, effective time management and team working. They will also develop their negotiating skills and presentation skills. It will fast track your career opportunities for advancement into Senior Management and at the end of the project there is an excellent opportunity for permanent employment with the Company. You will have the advantage of being a part of a wider network of FUSION Graduates with a clear plan for career development.  You will also receive a healthy support package on top of your salary including €1,125 towards your personal training and development and €1,125 to cover travel and subsistence costs. 

POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN MANAGEMENT
You will be expected to attend a management training course, designed specifically for FUSION Graduates and delivered by Smurfit Graduate School of Business in UCD.  Its aims are to enhance your personal, professional and managerial capabilities so that you can complete your FUSION project successfully and to equip you with the necessary skills to take up future leadership roles in business.  The course consists of a series of five, two-day theoretical workshops; however, a substantial part of the qualification will be work based.  On successful completion of the training, you will obtain a Post Graduate Diploma in Management which will be accredited by UCD.

LOCATION
The successful candidate will be based at CBE Software IDA Business Park, Claremorris, Co. Mayo. The Graduate will also travel independently on occasions between CBE Software and University of Ulster and between CBE Software and UCD. Independent travel to other locations will also be required occasionally as the job dictates.
