Cashless Self-Checkout – now for the C-Store market

CBE have partnered with NCR – the global leader in Self-Checkout (SCO) technology to bring Cashless SCO to the UK C-Store market. This innovative solution will enable convenience retailers to serve greater numbers of customers at peak periods without the need to involve additional cashiers.

The technology, already installed on pilot in a number of C-Stores in the UK, enables customers to pay for their items with their contactless debit card, credit card or mobile wallet.   One member of staff monitors the SCO’s on a display screen whilst continuing to serve customers at the conventional EPoS checkout. The card-only system greatly reduces queues in-store at peak periods, reduces pilferage, eliminates the cost of balancing cash each day and greatly improves speed of service – all without increasing labour costs.

Card usage is on the rise in the UK driven largely by the phenomenal uptake of contactless cards by consumers. With 125 taps every second, contactless represents 25% of all card payments in the UK and have increased by 166% year-on-year according to new research.

The CBE Cashless SCO solution offers a practical yet innovative solution that benefits both the retailer and the consumer.
